world solar challenge 2007
15.09.2006 First test with
motor / driving systems - decision for 48 V DC motor
with chain drive to keep our budget. Efficiency 87-90%.
17.10.2006 First test with
the solar cells & the module construction successfull.
Panel will have about 9 kgs of weight / 1200 W power (20% efficiency)
19.10.2006 Chassisparts to
arrive by 26.10.2006 - then the basic construction will
start.
Weight and financial budget still within our targets...
04.11.2006 Confirmation from
the WSC organisation received - Startingnumber 10

- basic construction finished (above see backside)
Aluminium / Carbon - 4 x 1.61 m2
31.12.2006 Steering and two
seats installed / First Solar cells successfully soldered.
99 cells on each panel will be connected in series together with 33 cells
of the fourth panel (132 cells per string). MPPT arrived...
02.01.2007 Visa and flights
for Australia confirmed - so no way back...
We will start official information and search for additional team members
in week 2.

07.07.2007
Testrun on the airporttrack of Alpnach was sucessfull. Some data:
Max. weight: 230 kgs / Max. speed: 70 km/h / energy 2 KW/h 100 km
14.07.2007 Test
of solarpanels at 33 C outside temperature and upto 75 C panel
temperature - max. output (calculated at 25 C / 1000 W / m2 is 1200 Watts,
some bubbles in the coating hat no negative influence on the performance.
15.07.2007
Meeting with the guys from Senegal - Team. Could exchange some ideas
between "low budget" teams.
18.08.2007

11.09.2007
Packing of the vehicle and all material
26.09.2007
Shipping of the transportbox to Australia
29.09.2007 The
team takes off....
20.10.2007
Scuteering and testing was passed successfully - we have got the numberplate
for our vehicle
21.10.2007
Thousands of spectators at the start in Darwin - we passed about 6 teams on
the first 50 kilometres.
22.10.2007 Due
to cloudy weather we only made an average of 300 km per day - batteries
only deliver 1000 Watt/h instead of planned 2000 Watt/h. Other teams drive with
5000 Watt/h.
23.10.2007 After
730 km at 1130 h we are forced to load the vehicle on a trailer as we did
not make an average of 50 km/h (only 45 km/h) due to the cloudy weather. As
we did not have a trailer (!) we had to develop a rack to put the vehicle on
to of our support vehicle (Ford combi).
25.10.2007 We
put our vehicle together again an restarted - after 220 km we were hit by
one of the "famous" willy willy tornados on the road and our vehicle flew off
the road at 50 km/h. Lucky the driver (Daniel) was not hurt - but the vehicle
(front wheels, body and solar panel) were quite heavily damaged. So we we had
to transport the vehicle again.
27.10.2007 We
managed to repair the vehicle and finaly pass the finishline in Adelaide with a
lot of experience collected over the passed days- as our transportbox disapeared
between Darwin and Adelaide we had to build a new one...what an adventure!
